Students can pick up free professional clothing at a giveaway in Careers 240 on Nov. 12 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
First-year entrepreneurship student Marija Pushko arranged the clothing drive with the goal of donating free professional attire to students who might not have any.
“It is so students feel more confident in interviewing well,” Pushko said, “going into the workplace in nice attire and giving a good impression of themselves.”
The drive was inspired by the wife of a deceased faculty member who gave away all his work clothes after he passed.
“Teacher passed away, and his wife donated, like, all of his professional clothes,” said undecided second-year student and volunteer Teresa Kendra, “and that, like inspired [Pushko] to start this.”
Pushko said she feels the clothing drive is beneficial, citing wealth disparity as a motivation.
“I think especially students may not have as much income to get a lot of professional clothing,” Pushko said, “and this is, you know, just a little way to help them out.”
Kendra cited wanting to help others and gain service hours as a motivation to help out.
“I want to, see it through and like, see how it like, turns out, if people, benefit from it, which I’m sure they will,” Kendra said. “And I of course want to get my hours for class.”
Kendra started volunteering to fulfill service learning hours for one of her classes.
Pushko expressed gratitude toward the volunteers who organized the drive.
“I am very proud of the students that have volunteered,” Pushko said. “They’ve been doing an amazing job.”
The volunteers collected clothing for the drive over two weeks from early to mid-October and donations were accepted across both the Arnold and Arundel Mills campuses.
“Donations have been brought in by… mostly staff,” Pushko said, “but there are some donations from outside the school. Some donations from students as well.”
