The Anne Arundel County Sheriff’s Office on Feb. 18 charged a 20-year-old AACC student with 24 counts for allegedly placing a camera in a toilet in a women’s restroom on the third floor of CADE.
According to AACC Police Chief Sean Kapfhammer, a faculty member reported that she found a camera in the third-floor bathroom. Police said when they viewed the footage from the recovered camera, they saw that the student, Tsague Tadonki Jr., had filmed himself installing it.
Kapfhammer said the “kind of crude” camera also showed seven unidentified women using the toilet.
“There’s no doubt” that Tadonki, who has been banned from campus, is the student who installed the camera, Kapfammer said.
Tadonki was held without bond at the Jennifer Road Detention Center. His trial is set for April 9.
A similar incident occurred in 2022, when a former AACC student was charged with three misdemeanors for allegedly filming men using the urinals in Truxal Library and the Student Union Building.
Tadonki, who has been permanently banned from campus, could face up to 16 years in jail if convicted on all 24 charges.
Court records show that Tadonki, a former University of Maryland student, faced charges in Prince George’s County in 2023 for visual surveillance in a private area and was put on probation.
“I can’t speak to the mentality of these folks [but] i’m sure there is some sort of disconnect, on how they operate or how they think,” Kapfhammer said.
“It’s hard, it’s tough, it’s unfortunate,” Kapfhammer said. He advised students: “Be aware of your surroundings, even when you’re in the bathroom … just look for things that might be out of place.”
