The college this semester started requiring all students taking for-credit classes to identify themselves twice when they log onto AACC platforms, such as mymail and Canvas.
Students will type in their usual mymail address and password the first time and then will be prompted to approve that login using an authenticator app or by responding to a text or phone call from the college.
The process, called multifactor authentication, or MFA, “is a quick extra step to ensure our students’ accounts remain protected,” Richard Kralevich, vice president for information and instructional technology, said in an email to the campus community.
Kralevich said students who have trouble using MFA most often have changed their phone numbers without updating that information with the college.
Verifying those changes will reduce the chance that students will not be able to log in when they need to, Kralevich said.
