AACC Women’s Volleyball finished the 2019 season with more wins than the previous two years combined.
Women’s Volleyball won 11 matches during the regular season, which ended on Oct. 24.
Last fall, the team recorded a 6-14 season with five more wins than the prior year.
In the past, Women’s Volleyball lacked skill and competitive edge, according to head coach Tatiana Cooper.
“Their skillset is better,” Cooper said. “The girls [were] on a more advanced level this year.”
Defensive specialist and second-year nursing student Tara Gabrielsen said the new group of players helped team chemistry.
“I feel like we’re pretty confident,” Gabrielsen said. “There’s definitely a lot more talent on the team, and I feel like team bonding [has been] a lot better. We all work really well together.”
Other players also expressed confidence in the team.
“Everyone knows their position, and they know what they’re supposed to do,” outside hitter and first-year athletic training student Karen Bautista said.
According to Gabrielsen and Bautista, some motivation for this season came from playing against Butler Community College, a rival from Pennsylvania, and winning.
“It’s always one of our main goals to beat [Butler],” Gabrielsen said.
Cooper said she thinks this newfound success will carry into the next few years.
“As far as recruiting goes, I’m getting a lot of interest,” Cooper said. “Based off the talent we have so far … people are seeking potential opportunities to play here.”
