AACC culinary students competed in the fourth Atlantic Culinary Competition against City of Glasgow College on July 10.

Student chefs from the Scottish college visited AACC for the competition. AACC’s culinary students competed in Glasgow last September.

The students prepared flat iron steak for an entree, a vegetarian appetizer and a dessert made, in part, from pate a choux, a type of pastry dough.

Scotland won the contest by several points, taking Judge’s Choice. Judges used a rubric to assign points for categories such as kitchen skills, efficiency, presentation, flavor and creativity.

However, during a blind taste test in which guests sampled each team’s menu, a majority chose AACC students’ dishes. This earned AACC’s students the People’s Choice award.

The event was at AACC’s Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism Institute in Glen Burnie. Next year, the competition will be hosted in Scotland again.
