Returning players help new freshman adjust

This season’s Men’s Soccer lineup will include three second-year players who will return to the field and lead the team to the regionals, the coach told Campus Current in August.

The “leaders of the field,” head coach Nick Cosentino said, are center back Ryan Owen, mid-fielder Noah Beall and goalie Austin Noland.

“They have experience; they know what to expect,” Cosentino said. “It’s really making sure we have momentum, going into the end of October when play-offs start.”

Cosentino said Prince George’s and Howard community colleges are the team’s biggest threats this season.

Last year, the team had a record of seven wins, eight losses and one tie.

Second-year computer science student Derrick Alleyne, a forward and defenseman last season, said he hopes the team will get further this season.

“If we can do well in the season we can put ourselves in a position to be seeded in a good way [in the regional tournament] to help us advance,” Cosentino said.

“At a certain point coaches are done coaching, [and] it is on the players at that point,” Owen said.

The next home game is Sept. 4 at 4pm, against Allegany College of Maryland.
