AACC women’s soccer team said they feel they are moving in the right direction to make it in the National Junior College Athletic Association playoffs this year.

When the Campus Current checked on the team earlier in the season, there was one goal that all of the athletes agreed on for the rest of the season, “get better, just keep getting better.”

“I do think we’ve grown a lot since the beginning,” goalie Melissa Stagnitta said. “We struggled a little bit but we have definitely gotten it together.”

Members of the women’s team said they feel confident that they will at least make it into the playoffs.

“We have five games left and they’re all important games,” Stagnitta said, “we definitely need to win those to place well for regionals and then hopefully go to nationals.”

The athletes said they know the challenge that is in front of them but their spirts and confidence are high.

“I think we’ve come really far as a team and I think we have a really good shot of advancing,” Forward Madeline Stevenson said.

“We’re not guaranteed to be in the playoffs just yet,” Coach Karin Victorio said. “We’re getting more ready with every practice.”

Victorio praised members of her team for their continuous efforts throughout the season.

“Defensive player, Kayla Beasley, has been solid on defense this year and last year and Angelina Horan [midfielder] has been producing goals consistently.”

The next game will take place on Oct. 19 at Potomac State College of West Virginia University. If the team wins then they will qualify for the NJCAA semi-finals on Oct. 27.
