Chemistry club puts on a mystery theater

AACC’s Chemistry Club hosted a mystery theater on Oct. 28.

The theater featured the film “The Poisoner’s Handbook.” The film portrays different plots explaining how different types of poisons have affected America in the early 20th century.

Plot lines in the film included a couple, Mr. And Mrs. Jackson of Brooklyn, New York, who die of rat poison. Others included a woman who conspires to kill her brother in an insurance scheme and a man dismembering his neighbor after carbon monoxide leak.

The event was conducted by the club’s co-advisor and chemistry professor, Robert Carp. Before the film, Carp explained that chemistry club was for students who had a specific interest in the science of chemistry.

The club offers activities such as demoing different chemistry equipment, and offers field trips to places such as the Smithsonian in D.C. The club is also very tentative to the environment, having recently volunteered to help rid the Magothy River of waste.

Carp promised another mystery theater in the spring semester, but the date and film have yet to be determined.

The Chemistry Club meets every Thursday at 4:15pm in Dragun 234.
