To end their season, AACC Women’s Volleyball hosted and competed in the 2016 National Junior College Athletic Association DIII Region XX regional tournament Friday.

Two Riverhawks, Nicolette Powell and Kathryn Hawes, led the team with top ranking for individual stats among the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference in late October.

Powell ranked first in the conference for service aces per set and fourth for kills per set and Hawes ranked third for assists per set.

Powell also earned the title of NJCAA DIII Player of the Week from Sept. 26 to Oct. 2.

Coach Gregory McDivitt said one challenge the team tries to overcome early on in the season is communicating with each other effectively. “The quicker we learn to communicate with each other the better off we are in the long run and that’s what’s difficult between a two-year school and a four-year school,” McDivitt said.

Hawes agreed with McDivitt, communication was a challenge for the team as a whole, however, she said “a lot of things they [captains] say in between games and just how motivating they are” keeps everyone going. “Our comradery is really good and we all come together as a team after every play which is really good,” Powell said.

Hawes commented on the season. “I think we did really well, we’ve improved so much since the beginning of the season and we’ve all come together and worked as a team,” she said.

AACC Women’s Volleyball ended their 2016 season with a record of 4-13.
