AACC Men’s Soccer ended their 2016 season at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III Region XX semi-finals against Prince George’s Community College Friday.

The Owls defeated the Riverhawks 4-1 after the teams were tied at the half 1-1.

“I felt good going into the game,” freshman defender Mark Jacoby, said. “We were doing really well until a few minutes into the second half. It was a fairly matched game, but we didn’t keep up the pressure.”

The Riverhawks may be out for the season, however, it was not a losing effort.

Logan Mayette, freshman and left midfielder for the Riverhawks scored the most goals of the team with 8, followed by Garrett McLendon, sophomore and midfielder, with 7.

McLendon also earned the title of NJCAA DIII Player of the Week from Sept. 12 to 18. Later in the season, freshman goalkeeper Alessandro Ertel was ranked 4th in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference for his 55 saves and 5th for his save percentage.

Ertel ended the season with 77 saves and two shut-outs. “The season was great,” Jacoby said. “It sucks that it’s over but I’m happy with our record.”
