The AACC Riverhawks Men’s Basketball head coach described last year’s losing season as a learning process.

“I had a lot of freshmen; it was a big learning curve for them,” coach Joe Snowden told Campus Current in October.

Last year’s team included two sophomores and eight freshmen. Snowden said he expects the returning sophomores to step up.

“I have Marcus Dentley, a returning sophomore, who was a regional player [last season] and Larry Stevenson who is a really good player,” Snowden said. “I have two guys that are willing and ready to step up and have a good season this year.”

Dentley averaged a team high of 19.4 points per game last season, followed by Stevenson with 12.5.

“As a team, we just want to win more,” Dentley said. “We want to come together as a family, basically just win as much as possible and get closer while doing it. We definitely have more experience this year. We have more returning players. We’re just trying to give more advice to the new guys.”

One of Snowden’s goals this season is to “play hard-nose, hardcore defense, win more games than we did last year” and have fun along the way.

AACC Men’s Basketball ended the 2015-2016 season with five wins and 24 losses.
