AACC’s Truxal Library started opening on Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Feb. 17.

Prior to the pandemic, the library was open seven days a week, according to the library’s access service director, Christine Vasica. After closing from spring of 2020, the library reopened Mondays through Thursdays only in Aug. 30, in the fall of 2021

The library has reopened on Fridays because of “an uptick in on-campus activity this year,” Vasica said. “The Truxal Library was asked to offer some face-to-face hours on Fridays, in addition to the services we already offer by chat, email, text and phone.”

Mondays through Thursdays the library is open from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Students said they are excited about the extra day, but added the Friday hours are too short.

“I think they should at least push it back to 6,” Anna Kurkz, a first-year nursing student, said.

Pari Patel, a first-year environmental science student, agreed.

“I would say regular hours, maybe on Fridays or Saturdays, it would [close] a bit earlier [than the other weekdays], maybe 6 or so,” Patel said.

Cameron Walker, a second-year transfer studies major, said he plans to hang out in the library on Fridays.

“Not too many people have classes on Fridays, but I think it’s pretty cool to come in and work on stuff,” Walker said. “I would come in and come into work because I work better here.”

Patel said the hours will “be helpful to returning students or working students who don’t have the time to come here during the week. So definitely for the people that are working during the week, and have 9 to 5, I feel like it’s a good opportunity for them to use the library’s resources.”
