The Anne Arundel Community College women’s soccer team won their regional tournament by beating the Montgomery College Raptors 2-0 at Seigert Field on Sunday.

In the first half the Pioneers were playing into the wind but still managed to find a few chances. They had two corners that they just couldn’t get on the end of. At halftime the score was 0-0.

In the second half AACC was playing with the wind and they had an easier time finding chances. Ryanne Dunlop scored a goal six minutes in with a shot that just crossed the line before the goalie punched it out. Victoria Mattoon sealed the win with a goal 39 minutes into the half.

It was a very physical game. There were a lot of hard tackles and both teams had trouble getting into a rhythm. The weather also played a major factor in the game.

“With the wind it wasn’t gonna be a pretty game,” said Jim Griffiths the head coach of the AACC team. “Formation wise we did some different things to try to counter the weather.”

With this win the AACC women advanced to nationals in New Jersey.
