The office of student engagement hosted AACC’s first Riverhawk Day on Aug. 30.
The event, held on West Campus, featured free food, games and a henna artist. Mission BBQ and Quinn’s Ice Cream Truck were the caterers.
“I think it came together well,” Neena Robertson, program manager for student engagement, said. “It has a good flow to it.”
Robertson said she wanted the event to “serve as a reminder that these events are for [students], and that we recognize what might be a need for them. Like lunch, or a snack.”
“I think they’re nice … Especially for incoming freshman,” said second-year transfer studies student Amanda Lopez about events like Riverhawk Day. “I think it’s a good idea, because there aren’t a lot of [events] for … community colleges where students meet other students.”
Lopez said her favorite parts of the event were the food and the music.
“I love it, I just put it on my Snapchat, and I told all my friends about it,” Jasmine Elkhoga, a second-year human services student, said about the event. “I think it’s really cool. … I don’t think that they have this at other colleges. … That’s why AACC is probably one of the best community colleges there is.”
Robertson said there may be more Riverhawk Days to look forward to in the future.
