Administrators hired the first of 10 new assistant deans in April.

Dr. Danny Hoey Jr. will become the assistant dean for English, Literacy and Communications in July.

Hoey is an associate professor and English, Communication and Language Department chair at Indian River State College in Fort Pierce, Florida.

The decision to hire assistant deans came in August 2018.

Liberal Arts Dean Alicia Morse announced Hoey’s hiring in an email to faculty and staff.

Hoey earned his bachelor’s degree from Ohio State University, a master’s degree in English from Long Island University Brooklyn and his Ph.D. in English from the University of North Texas.

At Indian State, he also worked as the administrative director of the Division of Minority Affairs from 2015 to 2016.

Dave Meng, a candidate for the new assistant dean position, said he will stay on as the chair of the English Department.
