Video game tournament at AACC

Students gathered in the SUN Dining Hall for a two-day video game tournament on Jan. 29 and 30.

The Campus Activities Board—a student organization that hosts many events on campus—organized the tournament.

CAB set up three large projection screens on which students could play “NBA2K18,” a basketball simulation game; “Madden NFL 18,” a football simulation game and “Mario Kart Wii;” a racing game using characters from the Mario franchise.

“I’m not very social, so I’m glad I got to come,” Michaila Miller, a first-year transfer studies student, said. “I was very shy to ask to play at first, so I’m very excited I got a chance.”

On the second day of the event, CAB switched out “NBA 2K18” for “Tekken Tag Tournament 2,” a fighting video game.

“It’s a different feeling than winning a physical sport,” Sterling Ives, a first-year statistics student, said.

“It’s a video game, but it’s still a competition,” Chase Titus, a third-year game development student, said after beating his opponents in “Mario Kart Wii.”
