Both the Chemistry and AACC Earth Science clubs joined together on Oct. 24 to welcome a former geologist.

Katherine Keough, a former geologist and a Physical Science professor at AACC, gave a speech about the importance of groundwater.

“I chose this topic because I think that it is especially relevant for today,” Keough said. “I wanted you all to see there really is an application.”

Keough went over several aspects of groundwater, such as the importance of it, where it comes from, the public water supply and careers in groundwater.

“It’s really interesting how we should take care of water resources,” Darren Williams, a second-year  nursing major, said.  “It’s also interesting to know how all of this works and how important it is to preserve water.”

At the end of the speech, Keogh held a Q&A.

AACC Earth Science club meets every Thursday at 4 p.m., in Dragun 215.

The speech was made in honor of National Chemistry Week.
