County police discovered the body of a 66 year-old woman between East and West Arnold campus on Sunday.

AACC Chief of Police Sean Kapfhammer said the woman—whose identity has not yet been released to the public—appeared to have committed suicide, but the investigation is ongoing.

The woman was a student at AACC from 2012-2014, when she earned her degree in medical assisting, according to an email AACC president Dawn Lindsay sent Sunday afternoon to all faculty and staff. The woman also worked on campus during that time.

“I ask that you please join me in offering your thoughts and prayers to her family and all who may be impacted by this tragic news,” Lindsay said in the email.

Kapfhammer said the scene has been cleared and will not affect student traffic.

County police were on campus scouting for a training exercise planned for Nov. 17 when they found the body.

Kapfhammer said because AACC does not have a crime lab or other resources needed to cover incidents involving death, county police will be handling the investigation.
