On Nov. 16, artist Ken Kewley held a talk in the CADE building on the subject of art’s influence.

Throughout the talk, audience members asked about Kewley’s thoughts on the importance of free reign over creativity. He stressed the composition of all aspects in life.

“The world is much more abstract than it is representation,” Kewley said of the world around us. “We see these things in our mind and we put it together.”

According to Kewley, Children were meant to stimulate their ideas without constraints. Kewley expressed this ideal through his appreciation of his daughter Clara’s artwork.

He emphasized the need to stray from the realism of daily life, and to look through different angles in artwork.

“You don’t need to be realistic,” Ken Kewley said. “It’s great to work from life, but the ‘realistic’ part is personal.”
