AACC celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month with more than 10 events all across campus between September and October.
The Hispanic Heritage Month Committee organized the events to engage in Hispanic culture, to make Hispanic students feel welcome and to showcase the talent of local Hispanics like sculptor and painter Sergio Alvarez.
“It’s good to have it [Hispanic Heritage Month] and to disseminate [Hispanic culture] more,” Alvarez said.
Established as a week-long celebration in 1968 and expanded to encompass 30 days in 1988, Hispanic Heritage Month takes place between Sept. 15 and Oct. 15.
“Personally [my goal], since I’m Hispanic, is that people know we are here,” Rosalies Toledo Ramirez, chair of the Hispanic Heritage Month Committee, said.
AACC has celebrated Hispanic Heritage Month for eight years.
